Analysis: After nine months on the sidelines, Mats Sundin was set to make his Vancouver Canucks debut Wednesday night against the Edmonton Oilers. Sundin signed with the Canucks as a free agent on Dec. 18, but hasn't played since the end of the regular season last year.
1/7/2009 Jonas Hiller, G, Anh Hiller made 18 saves in Anaheim's 3-1 win over Los Angeles on Tuesday night, continuing his dominance over the Kings.

Analysis: Hiller, Jean-Sebastien Giguere's backup, improved his record against Los Angeles to 4-0-0. He was coming off a 2-0 victory over Phoenix two days earlier. Hiller, who has a 0.65 goals-against average in his five appearances against the Kings, made 29 saves in Anaheim's 2-0 win over the Kings on Nov. 16.
1/7/2009 Cristobal Huet, G, Chi Huet made 22 saves to lead Chicago to a 6-0 win over Phoenix on Tuesday night.

Analysis: Huet earned his second shutout this season and the 19th of his career.
1/7/2009 Adam Burish, RW, Chi Burish started a four-goal outburst in the opening period with his first score of the season, and the Chicago Blackhawks routed the Phoenix Coyotes 6-0 on Tuesday night.

Analysis: Burish was playing in place of Patrick Kane, who missed his second consecutive game with a high right ankle sprain.
1/7/2009 Wojtek Wolski, LW, Col Wolski had no trouble moving to center for Colorado, scoring both Avalanche goals in a 2-1 win over Nashville on Tuesday night.

Analysis: Wolski shifted from left wing to cover the injury-depleted position. He hadn't regularly played center since junior hockey.
1/7/2009 Ty Conklin, G, Det Conklin stopped 23 shots for his eighth career shutout, sending the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.

Analysis: Conklin got his fourth shutout this season and stretched his home scoreless streak to 138 minutes, 46 seconds. He also has four shutouts in nine games at Joe Louis Arena this season after being signed away from the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent in July.
1/7/2009 Evgeni Malkin, C, Pit Malkin came out of a slump with three assists, leading the Penguins to a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday night.

Analysis: Malkin, the NHL's leading scorer with 63 points, has been held without a goal for a career-long nine games. Malkin had two assists in his previous seven contests.
1/7/2009 Petr Sykora, RW, Pit Sykora ended Pittsburgh's seven-game drought without a power-play goal while scoring twice leading the Penguins to a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday night.

Analysis: Sykora had been held off the scoresheet in three straight games.
1/7/2009 Jose Theodore, G, Was Theodore made 33 saves and stopped all three shots in the shootout as Washington beat Philadelphia 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Analysis: Theodore strengthened his claim to the No. 1 goaltender spot. He has allowed two goals or fewer in each of his last five games.
1/7/2009 Niklas Backstrom, G, Min Niklas Backstrom stopped 28 shots for his second straight shutout and fifth of the season to lead the Wild to a 1-0 win over Boston, handing the Bruins their first shutout of the season on Tuesday night.

Analysis: Backstrom stopped 33 shots in a 2-0 win over Colorado on Sunday. He has a 1.78 GAA in 14 road games.
1/7/2009 Brad May, LW, Tor Toronto acquired May from Anaheim on Wednesday for a conditional 2010 sixth-round draft pick.

Analysis: The deal was Brain Burke's first since becoming Toronto's president and general manager in late November. The 37-year-old May was a member of Anaheim's 2007 Stanley Cup-winning squad, which featured Burke as the team's GM. May played in 20 games this season with the Ducks, registering five assists and 28 penalty minutes.
1/7/2009 Jarkko Ruutu, LW, Ott Ruutu was suspended by the NHL on Wednesday for two games without pay for biting Buffalo Sabres enforcer Andrew Peters.

Analysis: The NHL said Ruutu will lose $37,707 in pay and miss Ottawa's game at Boston on Thursday and a home game against the New York Rangers on Saturday. The ruling came a day after Ruutu bit down on Peters' glove during an altercation in front of the Senators bench in the first period of Buffalo's 4-2 victory. The force of Ruutu's bite ripped Peters' glove off, broke the skin and drew blood on the player's right thumb.
1/7/2009 Nikita Filatov, LW, Cls The Blue Jackets have recalled Filatov from the club's American Hockey League team in Syracuse.

Analysis: The 18-year-old Filatov is expected to help a roster that is missing several injured forwards. He was the Blue Jackets' first-round pick in last summer's draft. Filatov had eight goals and three assists in seven games while leading Russia to a bronze medal at the recent 2009 World Junior Championships. In his first season in North America, he has one goal in four games with the Blue Jackets and seven goals and 10 assists in 23 games at Syracuse.
1/7/2009 Ed Jovanovski, D, Pho After he was punched by Chicago's Matt Walker during a fight midway through the third period, Jovanovski left with a cut above his left eye in Tuesday's 6-0 loss to Chicago

Analysis: The veteran defenseman has one assist in his last six games, and he has two goals and 20 points in 41 games this season.
1/7/2009 Dwayne Roloson, G, Edm Roloson turned in another solid effort Monday, making 25 saves to help the host Oilers to a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders.

Analysis: Roloson picked up a second straight win, and has improved to 5-1-0 with a 2.35 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage over his last six starts. Edmonton hosts Vancouver on Wednesday. Roloson boasts a 1.51 GAA and a .948 save percenage in winning three of his last four matchups against them, including two of three this season.
1/7/2009 Andrew Cogliano, C, Edm Cogliano notched the deciding goal midway through the third period to help the host Oilers to a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders on Monday.

Analysis: Cogliano scored for the second time in as many days, moving into a tie with defenseman Sheldon Souray for the team lead with 12 goals. He has four goals and an assist in his last seven games, and has 20 points overall this season.
1/7/2009 Joey MacDonald, G, NYI MacDonald was solid in defeat, making 23 saves for the visiting Islanders in their 3-2 loss to Edmonton on Monday.

Analysis: MacDonald has allowed seven goals on 72 shots in losing his last two games, and has a record of 9-16-3 as well as a 3.18 goals-against average in his last 28 appearances. Additionally, he fell to 0-10-1 with a 3.89 GAA in 11 road starts since beating Montreal at the Bell Centre on Nov. 24.
1/7/2009 Henrik Lundqvist, G, NYR Lundqvist notched his first shutout of the season, making 27 saves for the host Rangers in their 4-0 win over Pittsburgh on Monday.

Analysis: Lundqivst, who led the league with 10 shutouts last season, has won his last two starts after posting an 0-2-1 record and compiling a 3.99 goals-against average in losing his previous three. He also picked up his 20th victory, becoming the fifth NHL goalie to start his career with four consecutive 20-win seasons. He is 20-11-3 with a 2.59 GAA in 34 starts overall.
1/7/2009 Michal Rozsival, D, NYR Rozsival contributed two assists for the host Rangers in their 4-0 win over Pittsburgh on Monday.

Analysis: This was Rozsival's sixth two-point performance of the season, and his second such effort in his last six contests - a span in which he ahs four goals and six assists. Overall, he has six goals and 14 assists for the Rangers in 2008-09.
1/7/2009 Chris Drury, C, NYR Drury contributed a goal and an assist for the host Rangers in their 4-0 win over Pittsburgh on Monday.

Analysis: This was Drury's ninth multipoint performance of the season, and the fourth in his last eight contests - a span in which he has two goals and seven assists. Overall, the Rangers captain has 11 goals and 16 assists in 2008-09.
